"I made gazpacho last night. It was delicious! I've never made it before...probably because I never had enough fresh vegetables to even think of a recipe like that."

We believe... all individuals deserve access to nutrition education, fellowship, and assistance with complicated government programs.

Our Wellness programming is open to the entire Newport County community. More than 3200 people are served by the MLK Community Center. They are the last to experience the economic recovery if they experience it at all.

Newport County is only as strong as its most vulnerable residents. The Center counts seniors, the working poor, and the disabled among its clients. These community members must make difficult choices about allocating money to essentials like housing, food, utilities, and medicine.

Community programs like Case Management, SHIP (Medicare and Medicaid counseling), and individual nutrition counseling are critically important. Our Case Manager has developed programs that educate clients and connect them to services that can improve the quality of their lives. With the growing population of senior citizens in Rhode Island, it is important for us to provide programming that not only empowers and educates our seniors but also helps them stay physically and mentally strong.

Our Lunch & Learn program provides our seniors with a healthy meal, socialization, and offers topics of interest such as senior law, chair yoga, and financial literacy.

Our fitness programs are enjoyed by neighbors of all ages. Without the support of the MLK Community Center, life-changing resources like these are out of reach for our clients.
